If you’re looking for that tasty treat to celebrate the 250th with, here it is: the Gindependence Fizz, America’s most patriotic cocktail/mocktail.

How can we make that claim? We just did. Ha! Now, we dare you to submit a better drink for July 4!

Here’s the great thing. Use Club Soda instead of gin, and you’ve got a perfectly refreshing Independence Fizz. Maybe we call this the General Washington version (he wasn’t a big fan of his soldiers imbibing).

If you’re striving for the red, white and blue theme, try adding local blueberries. Makes it all the more refreshing.

Recipe

Single serving. We think this is more Ben Franklin’s style.

  • 3 Strawberries
  • 4 Basil Leaves
  • 4 tsp granulated sugar
  • 3 oz gin
  • 3 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 3 oz club soda

Place strawberries, basil and sugar in glass and muddle. Add gin, lemon juice and club soda. Add a few cubes of ice and enjoy!

For the Revolutionary Army party

Making a pitcher – 8 servings

  • 24 strawberries
  • 32 basil leaves
  • 2/3 cup of granulated sugar
  • 3 cups gin (or Club Soda)
  • 1 ½ cups lemon juice
  • 3 cups club soda

Remember, for the mocktail, replace the Gin with the Club Soda, and consider omitting the lemon juice…huzzah!, General Washington would be proud.

And we know that to them that love God, all things work together for good, even to them that are called according to his purpose.
