Byron Keith Curtis: 1939 - 2026

Byron Keith Curtis, 87, of Otto, NC, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026.

Born on May 13, 1939 in Macon County, he was the child of Prince and Cora Curtis. Keith graduated from Franklin High School and went on to work for the Department of Transportation for more than 30 years.

Keith spent much of his life working as a Maintenance supervisor at the DOT. Outside of work, he had a deep passion for traveling, woodworking, and being outside. His detail oriented creativity led him to build incredible grandfather clocks and other works of art. He was known above all for his inquisitive curiosity, always asking his family questions that kept them thinking. He thought about the functions of the world, the way things worked, and sought to understand them better.

He is survived by children Joseph Curtis (Melissa), Eric Curtis (Susan), grandchildren Emilee Higdon (Garrett), Seth Curtis (Sarah), Caleb Curtis, Joshua Georgianna, and great-grandchildren Luke Curtis.

A Memorial Visitation will be held Monday, July 6, 2026 at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to Frogs: Friends of the Greenway.
