Missed any of the July 4th, America 250 festivities? We didn’t.

Appropriately, Mayor Stacy Guffey kicked off Independence Day with a few words that this annual events more than a celebration.

“Patriotism is the hard work we do every day to make our community stronger, our town better, and our nation worthy of the generations that follow,” he said to a crowd in the Town Square. “We see patriotism in those who volunteer, in those who serve the public, those who coach little league, in those who serve in our churches, in those who raise their families with love and integrity, in those who build and support our local businesses, and in those who simply take care of their neighbors.”

Before the events got started, Outdoor 76 agreed to display a beautiful special quilt by the Folk Heritage Association of Macon County.

Friday, July 3

The widespread celebration began Friday, July 3, with fun and games at Parker Meadows, and then a special Pickin’ on the Square with local favorite Jason Passmore.

Below are pictures from the Run & Float, pick up basketball, and the fun train.

The crowd gathered before Jason showed up then really filled out the Square for the fun.

Waiting for the parade to start.

The Rotary was out giving away free bicycle helmets to kids (left), and a Patriotic Pup was simply loving life.

Wesley Merritt enjoyed the opportunity to surf Main St., while others beat the crowd to refreshments.

Dressing the part is as much fun as the festivities.

The parade is coming!

Mayor Guffey lead the parade, followed by Macon’s veterans, including Paul Shepard, with cane to the right of the flag, Macon’s only living World War II vet. At 99, Shepard walked the entire route.

A lot of our friends, furry or not, dressed the part for the occasion.

Here comes the parade! With new and vintage.

Special thanks to the Macon Democrats for endorsing Macon Sense with their grill banner (below)!

After the parade, it was pure joy for everyone…

The Show and the Fireworks

The music went off without a hitch. Music included Blue Jazz, Darren Nicholson (below left), Low Tide (below right).

Above, headliner and American Idol finalist Braden Rumfelt entertained a great crowd.

Unfortunately, the county experienced some technical difficulties with the fireworks, but the few that braved the night enjoyed some spectacular sights. Thanks to Mark Krancer for sharing his photos below.

And we know that to them that love God, all things work together for good, even to them that are called according to his purpose.
