The Panther girls volleyball team entered the season with high hopes, and judging by its first two non-conference games, the team played to its potential.
Last week, Franklin High School’s varsity took on the Cherokee Braves and handed them their first loss with a 3-0 sweep of the night.
Heading into that game, FHS swept the winless Enka Jets 3-0 the night before, dominating two of the three games.
The Panthers won on the road and at home, and will take on 0-1 Kings Mountain tonight in another non-conference game at home before conference play starts.
Coach Bekah Brooks’ girls are seeing a few players standout in key areas such as Audrey Pressley with the most kills and kills per set, Emma Hatch with the highest hitting percentage and total blocks, Aubrey Newsome leading the team with service aces and aces per set, and Bristol Brooks with the most digs and assists.
On Thursday, the girls take on winless East Henderson at home. The Eagles are 0-4 with two losses each on the road and at home.
The Panthers will spend the rest of the month against East Rutherford, East Lincoln and East Gaston in a best two of three tournament at Crest High School in Shelby (8/22), and at home against Pisgah (8/27) and A.C. Reynolds (8/31). FHS will travel to Brevard (8/25).
