Last Tuesday was a busy day for local government leaders to hold monthly meetings. On a rare occasion both the County Commissioners and Town Council held meetings on the same day.
Without any real controversy on the docket, the Franklin Town council had a light meeting agenda with almost all good news.
Early on, the mayor recognized the retirement of the Scottish Tartans Museum and Heritage Center executive director and business manager.
New annual fireworks?
Another upbeat discussion concerned the Labor Day fireworks.
Mayor Guffey reported the many positive comments and suggested it could very well become an annual event, citing better weather, excellent visibility in many areas of town, and public safety.
All council members were in agreement and shared public appreciation. The drone show was a complete surprise; and was well received for those who remained in town to see it.
Honoring service and the Constitution
Cody Harper and Earl Swartz were introduced as new employees in the Public Works Dept., and Firefighter Darian Green and Assistant Police Chief Matt Pellicer were recognized for 10 years and 25 years of service, respectively.
Finally, Mayor Guffey recognized The Daughters of the American Revolution and proclaimed September 17-23, 2026 as Constitution Week, marking the 239th year of the signing of the Constitution.
Finally, DAR Members Victoria Baker and Lynn Deegen (pictured below) represented the Battle of Sugartown Chapter and accepted the official announcement.
The Proclamation asks that citizens reaffirm the ideals the Framers of the Constitution had in 1787 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to Americans through this guardian of the nation’s liberties, remembering that lost rights may never be regained.
