Lauren Edward Greenwood: 1964 - 2026

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Father, Son, brother and friend. Lauren Greenwood, 61, passed away on March 23, 2026, at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC, after a brief and unexpected illness.

He was born to Charles and Sandra Greenwood on December 8, 1964, in Jacksonville, FL, but lived most of his adult life in both Rabun and Macon counties. For most of his life he worked as a self-employed landscaper and arborist. He was a very talented woodworker and a lover of music, motorcycles, and anything to do with the great outdoors. He never met a stranger and was a friend and helper to all who knew him.

Lauren was predeceased by his brother, Charles Alan Greenwood, and his father, Charles Edward Greenwood. He is survived by his mother, Sandra Marshall Greenwood and his only child, Cooper Tate Greenwood, both of Franklin, as well as his sister, Amanda Elizabeth Crews (John) of Jacksonville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Ashley Born (Jordan), Slade, Sawyer, and Savannah Crews, all of Jacksonville; Ashley Ruland (Matt) of Pensacola, FL, Jennifer Crews of St. Augustine, FL, Josh Crews of Jacksonville, Johnny and Jacob Crews of Ft. Bragg, NC, Logan Hill of Nashville, TN, Taylor Hill and husband, Daniel Fryer also of Nashville, Mackinley Hill of Manhattan, NY, and Chase Hill (Claire DeLozier Hill) also of Manhattan. Also surviving are two former stepsons, Grant Marchman of Pickens, SC and Dr. Ryan Marchman of Longmont, CO; his former wife Jillian “Jill” Tate Hughes (Randy); one special cousin, Timothy Flynn and family of Ocala, FL and Franklin NC; and more people who love him than most people could imagine.

This world has lost a beautiful soul and a shining light, and we will forever miss our precious Lauren.

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 29th, from 1-2pm at Cowee Baptist Church. A memorial service will follow at 2pm with Rev. Jason Smith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Cooper Greenwood and his brothers, Grant and Ryan Marchman, Tim Flynn, Slade Crews, and Tracy Garland.
