Douglas George Burton: 1940 - 2026

Mr. Douglas George Burton, Sr., 85, of Franklin, NC, passed away Friday, May 29, 2026. He was born July 8, 1940, in Washington, D.C. to the late Phyllis Newton Saltry and Douglas George Burton.

Mr. Burton served as a Navy Seal, in the role of a "Frog Man" and was a Vietnam Veteran. He owned his own company, COA Services, which he loved. Douglas liked sports cars, which he both built and admired, and owned several Corvettes. He also enjoyed gardens and landscaping. Douglas was a great friend and guide who loved to help people. He set an example to those around him, both in how to live and manage life; exemplified in his work as a Sunday school teacher. He was also funny and a real jokester. Douglas was also a master in Aikido and Jujitsu, even having taught an Olympic Gold Metalist who would go on to gift Mr. Burton his metal in his honor.

He is survived by his children, Amy Jo Burton (Joel Evans) and Doug Burton, Jr. (Missy Burton).
