Elma Holt: 1928 - 2026
Elma Smith Holt, age 97, passed away on May 20, 2026, at Grandview Manor. She was born in Levy County, Florida, on June 4, 1928, to the late Berry and Ellen Lock Smith.
Elma dedicated her life to serving others. She worked in Gainesville, Florida, for three years, assisting and supporting special‑needs children, a role she cherished deeply. She later served the State of Florida as a school bus driver for 28 years before retiring, faithfully ensuring the safety and care of the children she transported each day.
She was a member of Coweeta Baptist Church, where her faith and fellowship were an important part of her life.
Elma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Samuel Lindsay Holt, who passed in 1999; one daughter, Katherine Simmons; two sisters, Ethel Hancock and Thelma Lindsey; and one brother, Jack Smith.
She is survived by her son, Sammy Holt, and daughter, Linda Dennard; one brother, Berry Smith Jr.; five grandchildren; two great‑grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Coweeta Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with Reverend Keith Ashe officiating. Inurnment will follow at Newman’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
