Michael Gary Shuler: 1965 - 2026

Michael Gary Shuler, 60, of Franklin, went to be with his Lord, Savior, and best friend Jesus on Sunday, June 21, 2026. Gary was born in Macon County on July 1, 1965, to Joseph Paul and Ernestine Shuler, his parents, who survive him.

He was of the Baptist Faith and was a member at Liberty Baptist Church. Gary had such a close relationship with God and knew the Bible very well. He liked to spend time in the woods praying and reflecting on God’s Word. He was a mountain man through and through and a true patriotic American. He enjoyed a variety of music including Country, Gospel, Bluegrass Southern Rock, as well as many other types. He liked to have a good time and he enjoyed life. Gary was a very curious person and liked to explore the great outdoors. He knew a lot about the Cowee area especially. Gary had a lot of friends, and he never met a stranger. He will be missed dearly by all that knew him.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother Mark Shuler, whom he cared for deeply. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. A very special friend also survives him, his beloved dog Sophie. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Arthur and Lona Jones, and Daphine Green.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 25th, at 2pm at Cowee Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Cufo, Rev. Charles Stevens, and Ronnie Beale officiating. Pallbearers are Eric Jones, Gregg Jones, Chad Welch, Greg Conner, Jeff Alexander, and Matthew Gutherie. The family will receive friends from 1-2pm prior to the service.
