Shelby Houston: 1953 - 2026

Shelby Houston, 72, of Franklin, North Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. She was born on December 16, 1953, in Wilkes County, NC, to the late Richard B. Foster and Margaret Mastin Foster.

Shelby devoted her life to caring for others. A proud member of Longview Baptist Church, she lived her faith through service, compassion, and kindness. She spent her career as a dedicated nurse, working for Highlands-Cashiers Hospital until her retirement. Her gentle spirit and unwavering commitment to her patients left a lasting impact on everyone she served.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Williston Houston, who passed in 2026; and her sister, Deborah Foster.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Jeannie Shephard; two step-children, Tim Houston (Misty) and Angie Houston; her sister, Loretta Hamby; and five grandchildren: Ashton Shephard, Timothy Miller, Tony Miller, Taylor Wall, and Trista Reese. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Jace Wall and Houston Reese, who brought her immense joy.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 28 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Macon Funeral Home, with Rev. Greg Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Longview Baptist Church Cemetery.
