Timothy George “Tim” Smalley: 1944 - 2026
Timothy George "Tim" Smalley was born on July 28, 1944, in Newark, New Jersey, and went home to his Heavenly Father on September 23, 2026.
Tim is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Lynne Smalley, and his four children, Michelle Nagle, Christine Brady, David Smalley, and Michael Smalley. He was predeceased by his daughter, Tracy Slack. Tim was also blessed with 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who were an important part of the family he loved so dearly.
Affectionately known as "Tim the Tool Man," Tim could build or fix just about anything. At one point, his basement collection of tools looked more like the tool department at Lowe's or Home Depot than a home workshop. He was always building something, repairing something, or figuring out how something worked. And if he didn't have the part he needed to fix it, chances were he would simply make one himself.
Tim worked for the State of New Jersey for 25 years as a mechanic, putting those remarkable skills to good use throughout his career.
His faith was also an important part of his life. Tim became a certified lay preacher in the United Methodist Church and served as pastor of a small church in Chatsworth, New Jersey, for five years.
A proud veteran, Tim served his country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967 and was honorably discharged. In recognition of his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Tim loved his family, his country, and his God - and he also had a special place in his heart for the New York Giants.
He will be remembered for his deep faith, his devotion to his family, his wonderful sense of humor, his ability to fix nearly anything, and the unmistakable personality behind the name "Tim the Tool Man." Tim had a way of making those around him smile, and his humor and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at Memorial United Methodist Church at 3:30 PM. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:00 PM, at the church.
